Safety and Warranty

2010 Lancer

There isn’t a single reason why the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded Lancer the highest rating for front- and rear-impact safety. In fact, there are many reasons, including the extensive use of high-tension steel in the RISE chassis for increased rigidity, crumple zones for collision safety, a seven-airbag safety system and anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution to help ensure that drivers stay in control. Proving that when it comes to keeping drivers and passengers safe, the 2010 Lancer is clearly different for a reason.

IIHS Top Safety Pick
An Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick is the kind of accolade that really matters. Based on four Institute tests that judge how well occupants are protected by a vehicle in a collision, a vehicle must receive top ratings in all four tests to be considered for top safety pick status. We are proud to report that the 2010 Lancer received the IIHS Top Safety Pick, demonstrating its exceptional safety as well as our ongoing commitment to making our vehicle’s some of the safest on the road.
Seven Airbag System
The Lancer offers standard advanced dual-stage front SRS airbags, driver and passenger side-impact airbags, and front and rear side-curtain airbags on all Lancer models. Sensors evaluate the deceleration during an impact, the position of the driver's seat, and the weight on the front passenger's seat to provide the appropriate level of front airbag deployment. A first-in-segment feature, Lancer's standard driver's side knee airbag helps to prevent injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver in certain frontal collisions.
Active Stability Control (ASC)
ASC* (Active Stability Control) is a system that is designed to help maintain and control the lateral movement of the Lancer during difficult driving conditions. It uses sensors that check your speed, and how the Lancer is responding to your steering input. Bottom line? ASC simplifies vehicle maneuvers for the driver by applying braking pressure to the wheel that is slipping and, if necessary, cutting down the engine throttle to help you maintain control.
Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
The ABS technology used by the Lancer helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system “pulses” the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.
Refined Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) chassis
Lancer's Refined Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body chassis is designed to help provide added protection in a collision. With the extensive use of high-tensile-strength steel, the frame packs extra reinforcement in the areas where it matters most. By reinforcing critical areas, the RISE body chassis is your friend should you find yourself in a collision. This reinforcement is complemented by energy-absorbing crumple zones that help dissipate energy in an impact. We even gave Lancer crumple zones to help protect pedestrians if the unthinkable should happen.
LATCH System
Lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH) help simplify the attachment of child safety seats; making it easier for you to help keep your child safe.
Seatbelts and Pretensioners
Every Mitsubishi is equipped with three-point seatbelts and head restraints, plus front seatbelt pretensioners that are designed to help tighten the belts in certain frontal impacts so the seatbelts can better do their job. Seatbelt force limiters, which help the front seatbelts and airbags work together optimally, are also standard on every Lancer.
