The 2008 Lancer Evolution GSR and MR are the newest and most
sophisticated versions of the legendary high–performance model
series that began 16 years ago.

The 2008 Lancer Evolution looks the part of the street–wise sports machine, with its shark–nosed front end, aggressively sloping hood and 18” alloy wheels with Brembo brakes and standard 245/40R18 Yokohama ADVAN asymmetrical performance tires. But don’t be fooled into thinking that its distinctive design is just for show. Every aspect has been built for function first and perfected to make it a powerful machine that will set your pulse racing.

A shorter front overhang makes it easier to corener smoothly. The wider body moves the tires and overall track outward for greater stability. And the large rear wing — standard on the MR model coming soon — provides downforce to enhance road holding at track speeds. The fact that it looks good too, well, that’s just icing on the cake.

The evolutionary advances only begin with the Evo’s winning physique. The 2008 Lancer Evolution GSR and MR models showcase new performance and handling technology inside and out, starting with an all–new 291–horsepower turbocharged–intercooled 2.0–liter DOHC inline 4–cylinder engine with 300 lb.–ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. And with an aluminum cylinder block, the weight of the engine itself was cut by 26 lbs. from its predecessor.

Providing the perfect match to the powerful engine is the Super–All Wheel Control (S–AWC) dynamic handling system. Regulating drive torque at each wheel, the S–AWC delivers an extraordinary level of control that goes well beyond the capabilities of other all–wheel drive systems. In the words of Takayuki Kinoshita, Japanese motor journalist and racing driver, ”...it makes you feel that even if you hurtle into a corner at high speed, the car will quietly follow the line you’ve chosen and come through safely. Of course there are physical limits but [the 08 Lancer Evo] corners so fast you even start to doubt such limits exist.”

And speaking of control, the MR model boasts a new 6–speed Twin–Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC–SST), a new–generation automated manual transmission with both a console–mounted shifter and magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters. It executes lightning–quick upshifts with no drop–off in engine power, providing consistency no driver can match. And when you do want to seize control, you can switch from automatic to manual mode.

Coming from a long line of winners, it’s no surprise that the 2008
Lancer Evolution is emerging at the head of the pack.

Cutting–edge technology is just as important as street cred. And the Lancer Evolution delivers it in spades. The MR model comes standard with high–intensity discharge (HID) headlights, FAST Key entry system and Bluetooth® hands–free interface with voice recognition. And the optional Technology Package adds a 30GB HDD navigation system with 7” touch screen and built–in music server, the Mitsubishi Multi–Communication System and Rockford Fosgate® 650–watt Premium Sound System with SIRIUS® Satellite Radio and six–month prepaid service subscription.

When it comes to high–performance vehicles, safety is paramount. That’s why we built the 2008 Lancer Evolution around our next-generation Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) unibody design. The RISE body structure disperses energy loads during side and rear crashes and controls distortion, keeping you protected and helping protect the fuel system during a rear impact.

And the Lancer’s safety package is one of the most comprehensive in the segment, including an advanced dual front air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS)* with occupant sensors, standard front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and side curtain air bags, plus a driver’s knee air bag. And the standard anti-lock braking system (Sports ABS) integrates electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).

Coming from a long line of winners, it’s no surprise that the 2008 Lancer Evolution is emerging at the head of the pack. From its powerful build and sculpted aerodynamics to its tech smarts and advanced safety features, the 2008 Lancer Evolution is a whirlwind tour de force that’s equally impressive on and off the track.

*Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat, and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear–facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your owner’s manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
